Our piercers
David and Shelby Justice are piercing masters — David with 14+ years of experience, Shelby with 5. David and Shelby manage all piercings at American Gypsy Tattoo. They are both perfectionists in everything they do, and they go above and beyond to satisfy each customer’s needs. Every needle is single-use, and we maintain a certificate of sterilization for our tools.
I believe the key to mastering piercings is to complete it before the client realizes it's done. The quicker it's over with, the happier people are.

Age & jewelry policy
The rules we work by. Same for every client, every time.
Age tiers
- Under 3: no piercing.
- Ages 3–13: ear lobes only.
- Ages 14+: other piercings permitted.
- Ages 18+ only: genital piercings.
Jewelry
Standard piercing jewelry is always surgical stainless steel. We do not pierce with titanium even on request — titanium is available as retail jewelry only, for use after your piercing has healed.
Children’s piercings
Children’s ear lobe piercings are always tandem — both ears at once, by two piercers, in one moment. We never pierce children one ear at a time.
Specialty
We specialize in the Daith piercing — many of our clients seek it for migraine relief.
Piercing aftercare
The essentials. Following these gives your piercing the best chance to heal cleanly.
- Do NOT twist, spin, or turn the piercing. We recommend not cleaning the piercing at all — it can create more irritation. The body does enough healing on its own.
- For six weeks, minimize exposure to filth: keep hands off the piercing; avoid lakes, rivers, ponds, and pools unless chlorinated.
- Rinse twice daily with sea salt mixed in warm water.
- Avoid contact with genitals for two weeks.
- DO NOT use mouthwashes containing alcohol.
Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
There will be pain and discomfort during the procedure. The amount of pain depends on the location of the piercing. In our experience, people do not feel as much pain as they originally expected. Pain is also dependent upon the individual's pain tolerance. It's important to remember that the procedure is relatively quick.
Do you use a piercing gun or a needle?
For every piercing, including lobes, we use a needle. This causes the piercing area less trauma.
How long should it take for my piercing to heal?
It depends on the piercing and the person. Some piercings take 4 weeks to heal; others can take up to several months. Your piercer will go over this information with you at the end of your appointment.
It WILL take LONGER for your piercing to heal if you over-clean, touch, or participate in any activity that irritates your new piercing.
What do you mean by over-clean?
Over-cleaning occurs when you clean your piercing more than 2-3 times a day. It is best to clean it only a few times a day and leave it alone the rest of the day.
Is it safe?
Your health and safety is very important to us. We use single-use needles and autoclaved sterilized clamps. Our piercers wear gloves and use sterilized jewelry.
If I am a minor and I want a piercing, what is required?
We require your parent to be present, a form of identification for them (such as a driver's license), and a legal form of identification for you (such as a driver's license or birth certificate). If you have any other questions, please feel free to call (512) 761-3972.
